Hwalok Cave, located in Chungju, Chungcheongbuk-do, was known as the largest mine in the East in 1919. This site, where jade and talc were once mined, features an extensive cave system spanning 57 kilometers. Massive machinery, such as the 150-horsepower hoist, vividly illustrates the history of the time.

Inside the cave, you can find fascinating exhibits, including photos of a women’s archery competition from the 1910s and kisaeng learning the geomungo. The cave is also famous as a filming location for episode 6 of the Netflix drama DP.

The cave maintains a constant temperature of 11-15 degrees Celsius year-round. Here, you can observe wasabi and horseradish grown with smart farm technology, enjoy a kayaking experience, and even sample wine in the cave’s wine storage.
